RICHARDSON (CBSNewsTexas.com) — Richardson residents and local organizations working to end gun violence attended Monday evening's city council meeting.
They were there to publicly oppose the National Rifle Association moving its headquarters from Fairfax, Virginia to Richardson.
City manager Don Magner addressed this, saying a senior State Farm executive contacted him "because he had learned of misinformation being shared about its CityLine site."
A spokesperson for the City of Richardson told CBS News Texas that State Farm is not subleasing any of its space at CityLine and that the city has not been contacted by the NRA. Still, that didn't stop people from speaking on the issue.
"We got word from an article that the NRA was looking to move their headquarters here and we love the Richardson community," resident Crystalyn Roberts said. "It's a cohesive, safe community and we feel that bringing in an organization like the NRA would be divisive to our community."
Two years ago, the NRA filed for bankruptcy and, as part of its petition, sought to be reincorporated in Texas.
Allison Adams with the DC Project was also at Monday's meeting. The organization said they would like to see this happen.
"We can utilize their resources and the resources of everyone in this industry in order to sit down at the table and really have good discussions about how to come up with solutions," Adams said.
A spokesperson for the NRA told CBS News Texas that Texas still remains a preferred choice for a future headquarters.
And in a statement, the NRA cleared the room for any rumors by saying its board of directors has not made any decision and that "it is not accurate that the NRA is relocating to Richardson."

Rising high above the Bush Turnpike and Plano Road in Richardson, the massive four-tower CityLine office complex has hit the market.
At nearly 2.3 million-square-feet of space, the high-rise development is one of the largest corporate campuses in Dallas-Fort Worth and last sold in 2016 for more than $800 million.
That was one of the biggest real estate purchases ever recorded in Dallas-Fort Worth, The Dallas Morning News reported.
Home to State Farm Insurance’s regional offices (which has a long-term lease), the campus has been owned by a partnership that includes South Korean investment fund Mirae Asset Global Investments and Houston-based Transwestern Investment Group.
The office towers sit at the heart of the $1.6 billion CityLine development, a mixed-use collection of offices, shops, apartments, townhomes, and a hotel. A project of KDC, the Morning News said that brokers are touting the long-term income stream from the property, which they call a “premier mixed-use development.”
“We do expect global interest given the AA credit and quality of the asset,” Newmark Vice Chairman Gary Carr said in a statement. Newmark’s Carr, Chris Murphy, Kevin Shannon, Robert Hill, and Ken White are marketing the development for sale.
KDC began construction on the 186-acre CityLine project in 2013. Along with State Farm, CityLine has a large campus for Raytheon Co. State Farm has more than 10,000 workers at CityLine.
“We have long-term leases for our space at CityLine,” State Farm’s Chris Pilcic told the Dallas Morning News. “This transaction will not impair our ability to serve our customers.”
Once completed, CityLine is scheduled have 5 million square feet of office space, 3,925 multifamily residential units, retail, and restaurants. According to the Morning News, it is the largest commercial property currently offered for sale in DFW.
We reported earlier this year that the staff and leadership of the Missouri-headquartered McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. moved its Dallas office to the CityLine development. That office also will serve as headquarters for McCarthy’s parent company, Genuine McCarthy Enterprises and its associated subsidiaries.
Previously, McCarthy was at 12001 N. Central Expressway in Dallas.
McCarthy has been building in Dallas for more than 40 years and is expanding its office to accommodate rapid growth in the market. McCarthy plans to hire roughly 150 new employees in the coming year to support recently awarded contracts across Texas.
The new office will also hold McCarthy’s newly formed civil business unit focused on civil construction projects supporting the transportation (roads, rail and aviation), solar, water, and commercial markets, the company said.

The gun rights organization hopes to move its headquarters to Texas, but "it is not accurate that the NRA is relocating to Richardson," spokesperson Andrew Arulanandam said.
Speculation surfaced last month that the NRA was eyeing office space at the Richardson CityLine campus that is also home to State Farm. Steve Triolet, senior vice president of research and market forecasting operations for Partners Real Estate, told the Dallas Business Journal that NRA officials had toured the CityLine facility.
The prospect of the NRA moving to Richardson was brought up by several residents at the city's council meeting Monday night. But officials with the NRA and the city dispelled the notion of a headquarters relocation to Richardson.
“Texas remains a preferred choice for a future HQ. That said, the NRA Board of Directors has not made any decision – and the Association is not in contract negotiations with any property in Texas. It is not accurate that the NRA is relocating to Richardson," Arulanandam said.
Richardson city officials in a statement said they had "no further knowledge of its site selection process and the City has not been approached regarding relocation activities."
State Farm officials said they lease their CityLine office space and are not looking to sublease it.
The NRA filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in early 2021 to reorganize its business and said it plans to register as a nonprofit in Texas. The association has been a registered nonprofit in New York for more than 150 years, even though its physical headquarters is in northern Virginia.
In May 2021, Judge Harlin Hale of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Dallas dismissed the NRA’s petition for bankruptcy reorganization, but the association said afterward it is still exploring a headquarters move to Texas, where it has more than 400,000 members. The group has more than 5 million members nationwide.
The NRA has hired commercial real estate firm Colliers to lease and potentially purchase an office building in DFW for its new headquarters, according to a June 20 report by real estate information service CoStar.
“Texas heads the list” for the NRA’s potential headquarters relocation, an association spokesman told CoStar in an email, according to the June 20 article.

Richardson ISD found that the need among teachers and staff for daycare is extremely high.
The first district-run daycare opened last week, with a second facility slated to open in January.
The Little Mustangs Learning Academy for the J.J. Pearce feeder pattern already has a wait list.
Desiree May, a 5th grade teacher at Terrace Elementary, is one of the 57 Richardson employees who are taking advantage of the program.
"This makes me feel comfortable when I am at school teaching myself," she said.
May says this new Richardson ISD daycare center is the reason she is still teaching in the district.
"I've been commuting for 8 years. When I heard this was available, and he got a spot, that was my 100% decision to stay in RISD," she said.
Kelly Mountjoy, a counselor at Park Hill Junior High, also no longer has to add up the cost of working.
"It's almost like you are working to pay for child care when you are in the private daycare centers," said Mountjoy.
Mountjoy, a mother of four children ages 7, 5, 2 and 6 months, says the Little Eagles Learning Academy is allowing her to stay in her profession by saving about $15,000 a year in child care expenses.
"This was such a Godsend," she said.
Superintendent Tabitha Branum says it's not just the Richardson ISD teachers and staff with children here who are reaping the benefits, it's also the district's 37,000 students.

"We need the best of the best if we are going to grow every child every day. This is just one strategy," said Branum.

"She implemented a program that single-handedly in one year closed an access gap for Hispanic and African American students in accessing higher-level courses," said Branum.
The superintendent says the district's work in this area is far from home.
"We have 147 employee families on the waitlist, so we know the demand is there," she said.
Richardson ISD still has 14 teacher vacancies this year. That is down from 110 at this time last year.
Branum says the district's goal is to explore adding two additional day care center so all four of the district's high school feeder patterns will be covered.
