Collin County officials reported zero storm-related injuries or casualties due to the April 4 storm.
COLLIN COUNTY, Texas — The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down in Blue Ridge during Monday night's storm.
According to the NWS, the tornado produced estimated winds of 100 mph.
Officials in Blue Ridge on Tuesday morning confirmed several downed trees and damage to metal buildings and roofs. At least two buildings lost a roof, including the town fire department's administration building.
The NWS also reported at least one home lost a roof to winds and at least one structure has partially collapsed in Blue Ridge at the intersection of FM 545 and Church Street.

WFAA's Malini Basu and Ariel Plasencia were in Blue Ridge Tuesday, where they found the fire department torn apart.
Officials told Basu that six firefighters were inside the department watching TV when the roof ripped off.
The firefighters continued to work through the night and helped families in their community despite the storm's damage to the station.

“It just started raining really heavy. It got really loud and that's when the roof was blown off,” said Blue Ridge FD Capt. Bonnie Bowers.
Bowers said she and other firefighters were keeping an eye on the storm from their administration building.
The storm was so powerful, it ripped the roof off the administration building and tossed part of it across the street.
Sections of the ceiling collapsed. Rain started gushing in.
“That (tornado) part happened really fast. It came out of nowhere and it was gone in no time," said Bowers.
Bowers said they didn’t have much time to think about what had just happened.
“Then you're worried about, okay, if this is happening here, what's going on out there (in the community) and what do we need to do?” said Bowers.
Bowers told WFAA thankfully, there have been no reports of injuries to Blue Ridge residents.
Now, the clean-up process begins. Bowers said computers, a printer, and a copy machine were damaged.
"We're an all-volunteer department. We depend on donations for everything we get. So, that's going to be the hard part is actually getting back to where we were. We've worked really hard to get to this point. So, it's just rebuilding from now on out," said Bowers.

Collin County officials also announced State Highway 78 and Williford Road were closed Monday night in both directions due to high waters.
As of April 5, Collin County officials reported zero storm-related injuries or casualties.
The First Baptist Church Blue Ridge established a benevolence fund to assist families with immediate needs, according to county officials. Financial donations can be made through the church’s website, FirstBlueRidge.org or by texting TORNADORELIEF to 888-411-3304. People can also mail donations to FBC Blue Ridge, located at 316 Highway 78 N, Blue Ridge, TX 75424.
The church is not accepting donations of physical goods, such as clothes or blankets.
The Texas Division of Emergency Management is asking residents to report damages from the April 4 storms, for both insured and uninsured property. Residents can report damages online here.

BLUE RIDGE, Texas — Volunteer firefighters in Blue Ridge, Texas, were inside the fire station when a tornado hit Collin County. Firefighters were gearing up to be dispatched to weather-related emergencies when the building shattered.
Corbin Nolan was one of the firefighters on “storm watch” duty on Monday night at the Blue Ridge Fire Department. They were inside, watching the weather and getting ready, knowing a call would come at any second.
“The power went off and was flickering for a couple minutes,” Nolan said. “The second tornado warning came about, and then not but a couple minutes later, the tornado hit.”
The emergency calls came in at that moment. The first one was a car wash right next door to the fire station.
“So we were all getting up to check on the vehicle and that’s when the roof came down on us,” Nolan explained. “The main part of came off this front section over here. And you can tell where from the bricks. And it kinda just blew all over into the back of the church over there.”
Nobody was hurt, but the tornado destroyed the building. Lt. Steve Straka said everything inside was destroyed as well.
“We lost everything. Every file, computer, training equipment, gear,” Straka said. “Our volunteers got what they could out, and got what they needed to work, at least for now. But I can imagine that in the future there will be things that we don’t use often, but desperately need one day, and we won’t realize it until that day comes and we can’t find it.”
Straka was already dispatched to another call and was not at the station when the roof collapsed.
“We had been split up for a call, so I was dispatched accordingly. I had no idea what happened until much later,” Straka said. “I got back from my call and my buddy is like, ‘Did you see the admin building?’ And I was like, ‘No. What happened to the admin. building?’ That’s when I walked in and saw water pouring out four inches deep, ceiling tiles falling out, and every piece of paper we’ve ever owned in that building was just going all over the place.”
The volunteer firefighters still worked through it, and serve Collin County through the storm.
“Everybody lost cell signal. There was no cell signal in the city at all. All the power was out, gas was out, internet was down, naturally,” Straka said. “It didn’t impact much, except for on the GPS side. It just required more upfront planning. You know, we had to look at the map, figure out exactly what roads we had to take to get where. But everything we give over the internet, we say over radio, so the internet is basically a redundancy. So we didn’t have any issues serving our county.”

The roof landed across the street in the yard of a church. Nolan said everyone was brave at the moment.
“It wasn’t really a fact of being scared or not. It just happened so fast that we didn’t have time to comprehend what was going on and what was happening,” Nolan said.
The insurance company has already been out to access the damage, but there is no dollar amount or estimate of exactly how much damage occurred just yet.

BLUE RIDGE, Texas (KXII) - A Blue Ridge family is still shocked, after one of their Longhorn calves wandered out of the pasture and into a 10-foot-deep drainage ditch Sunday.
“She was just like, ‘let’s go, go get dressed, let’s go!’ I was like, where are we going? To go save a calf from a well!” said Brittany Bernal.
10-year-old Brittany Bernal and her mom Alyssa were enjoying their Sunday like any other, when Alyssa saw something alarming on Facebook.
“There’s a calf stuck down about 10 feet, I figured we could at least try and help,” Alyssa Bernal said.
Just 7 minutes up the road in Blue Ridge, Rick McCall and his wife were dealing with a crisis.
“One of the momma cows, (was) bellowing, which typically means something is not right,” said McCall.
McCall says their youngest calf, Triumph, was missing.
“(We) Clear the grass back, like some type of movie, and we see our calf standing at the bottom of this 10 to 12 foot culvert,” McCall said.
Triumph had fallen to the bottom of a drainage ditch and had been there for several hours. The McCalls knew they wouldn’t be able to get her out without help.
“(I) Just pulled up my Facebook and saw the post and thought hey! we can go help,” said Bernall.
Alyssa Bernal, a Blue Ridge Firefighter, says she knew exactly what to do.
Using a ladder, rope and tow strap harness, the mom-and-daughter duo were able to get the 2-month-old calf to safety, unharmed.
“We never met Alyssa, never met Brittany, but they were here in minutes ready to help,” McCall said.
“If anyone needs help... I’ll go help them out,” said Bernal.
The McCalls say they had no idea the drainage ditch was there, and are working to get it filled as soon as possible.
As for the Bernals, they say the rescue couldn’t have been possible without team work.
“Do everything together. Don’t try and do everything yourself, because it might be a little hard. So, do everything together,” said Brittany Bernal.

Last month, Dallas-based Blue Ridge Industrial acquired its ninth and 10th properties, both being fully-leased warehouses in Allen and Irving.
The company, which was founded in 2018 by Managing Partners Michael Trapani and Nate Leifeld, has quickly grown its portfolio to 10 properties across three markets with a total footprint of 600,000 square feet. Besides North Texas, the company also owns industrial buildings in Houston and Atlanta.
The pandemic has done little to slow the company's buying appetite, and more investment is expected in 2021. During a recent interview with the Business Journal, Leifeld discussed what the company is looking for, what his expectations are for 2021 and what opportunities he believes lie in North Texas.
What kind of industrial properties is your company looking to acquire?
It's wide-ranging and could be a multi-tenant asset, a single-tenant asset or flex. We also focus on value-added to core plus properties. Our target deal size is around $25 million-$30 million. That’s middle of the fairway for us.
My partner and I both have backgrounds in industrial real estate on the acquisitions and operating side. Our focus now with Blue Ridge Industrial is just on the buying side.
What markets are you focused on and what submarkets do you like in North Texas?
We really like the Texas and southeast markets. We'd love to buy in the west region, we've just been outbid there several times. It seems like every single submarket in Dallas is doing well and Dallas is one of the top markets in the entire country. We even have international groups looking to invest here.
What has 2020 been like for your company?
We’ve been in ultra-growth mode. Industrial real estate has been one of those assets that has performed throughout 2020 with everything going on. We didn’t have any issues with rent collection or anything like that. We’ve held up just fine and we’ve seen even more attention put on industrial.
How competitive is the investment market right now?
It’s extremely competitive. You have to do a number of things to give yourself a competitive advantage. One thing about real estate is that it consistently rewards hard work. On any given deal, you’re going to have ten-plus groups looking at it.
One of the biggest things that I’ve seen companies doing today is following talent. When we’re targeting assets to buy, location is so key and it comes back to talent. Companies are locating in specific buildings and specific markets because of the access to talent.
What are your investment goals going into 2021?
We want to expand our current portfolio. We’ve got a couple deals in the southeast that we’re working on and a couple in Texas. Our goal next year is to acquire between $100 million to $150 million worth of industrial real estate.
